Samurai Deeper Kyo

Akimine Kamijyo wrote and illustrated the manga series Samurai Deeper Kyo. Samurai Deeper Kyo is a Japanese film set during the Edo period that follows Demon Eyes Kyo, a feared samurai who is trying to reclaim his body after his soul is trapped within the body of his opponent, Mibu Kyoshiro. Shiina Yuya, the heir to the Tokugawa shogunate Benitora, and Sanada Yukimura, a noted opponent of the Tokugawa, join Kyo in his pursuit. Samurai Deeper Kyo was published in Kodansha's Weekly Shnen Magazine from October15, 1999 to May10,2006, and was compiled in 38 volumes. In2002, the manga was made into an animated television series. The Studio Deen production broadcast on TV Tokyo for 26 episodes from July 2, 2002 to December 23, 2002. In the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, the manga and anime have been licensed. Tokyopop purchased the comic in 2002. However, by2009, Kodansha had let its licensing rights to expire, prohibiting Tokyopop from continuing the series in English. Del Rey Manga quickly picked up Samurai Deeper Kyo and completed the story by releasing volumes 35 and 36 in a single volume, as well as volumes 37 and 38 in a single volume. In2003, Media Blasters purchased the anime series under its AnimeWorks banner. In the United States, it was temporarily broadcast on Encore network channels.
