Punishment
The Reg Grundy Organisation created Punishment for the Ten Network in 1981. The series, set in a fictional men's jail, was a male version of Prisoner. Punishment was made more realistic to contrast it from Prisoner, yet it didn't draw many viewers. After only three episodes, Network Ten canceled the new series. Later that year, the remaining 26 episodes aired out-of-ratings. Single-camera taping was unusual for a soap program. Brian Wenzel, Barry Crocker, Michael Preston, Ross Thompson, Anne Haddy, George Spartels, Cornelia Frances, Lisa Peers, and Julie McGregor starred regularly. Mel Gibson was a prisoner in episode 1. Kris McQuade played Gibson's girlfriend and was phased out after a few episodes. Alan Coleman produced and directed.
