Lamb is based on Bonnie Nadzam's novel and chronicles David Lamb's self-discovery in the weeks following the breakdown of his marriage and the death of his father. He devotes his attention to Tommie, an awkward and unpopular eleven-year-old girl, in an attempt to reclaim some faith in his own kindness. Lamb is confident that he can rescue her from a life of lethargy and emptiness, and he takes Tommie on a road journey from Chicago to the Rockies, intending to initiate her into the splendor of the mountain landscape. They are both surprised by how much the journey disturbs them.
