Hoop Dreams
Every day, African-American high school students William Gates and Arthur Agee travel 90 minutes each way from the city center of Chicago to St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois. St. Joseph High School is a mostly white suburban school known for its great basketball program. Gates and Agee both want to be NBA stars, and with the help of their close-knit families, they work hard to overcome the social and physical obstacles in their way. This award-winning documentary took five years to make.
