Oscar Hopkins, a misfit, becomes an Anglican minister after being abused as a child by his evangelistic father, and develops a divine obsession with gambling. Lucinda Leplastrier, a wealthy Australian heiress, is in London looking for materials for her newly acquired glass factory back home.
