In 1982, Taeko is 27 years old, has never been married, and has lived in Tokyo her whole life. She decides to go see her family in the country. As the train moves through the night, memories of her younger years come back to her: the first, immature feelings of love, the start of puberty, and the frustrations of math and boys. At the station, she meets a young farmer named Toshio, and as she spends time with him, she starts to remember old desires. Taeko thinks about the path of her life and wonders if she has been true to the dreams she had as a child. She does this by switching lyrically between the present and the past.
