The Only examines the incredible life of goalkeeper Briana Scurry, who is a member of the United States Soccer Hall of Fame, from her greatest victories to her most heartbreaking losses. The documentary delves into the inspirational grandeur and deeply dark corners of a Hall of Fame goalie who stood alone on the pitch as both the only Black starter and the only out gay player. He was also the only player who came out as gay. The documentary not only honors the historic legacy of Scurry's career, which includes winning two gold medals at the Olympics and a penalty save that contributed to the United States winning the 1999 Women's World Cup, but it also tells the story of how she overcame racism and homophobia during the time of her greatest triumphs, and how she later found herself on the brink of suicide after a career-ending concussion.
