You Can't Do That on Television debuted in 1979 in Canada and 1981 elsewhere. The sketch comedy show starred preteens and teens. Episodes have themes. The show launched the careers of Alanis Morissette and Bill Prady, who later wrote and produced The Big Bang Theory, Gilmore Girls, and Dharma and Greg. The show broadcast on CJOH-TV in Ottawa. After production ceased in 1990, Nickelodeon ran repeats until 1994, when All That replaced it. The show is linked with Nick and had good ratings at the time. The show popularized the network's slime. You Can't Do That on Film is a 2004 documentary about the program.
