The Canadian-American science-fiction television series War of the Worlds ran for two seasons, from October10, 1988 to May14, 1990. The series is a continuation of the 1953 film The War of the Worlds, employing the same War Machine and frequently mixing elements from the film, radio adaptation, and original novel into its mythos. In the 1970s, the original film's producer, George Pal, envisioned a television series based on the same picture. However, it was not until the late 1980s that a series was ultimately produced, this time by television producer Greg Strangis. The show was developed during a period of increased production of first-run syndicated television series. Later, it was repeated on the Sci Fi Channel. The television series was shot in Los Angeles, California, and Toronto, Ontario.
