The O.C.

Ryan Atwood, a troubled adolescent from a shattered home, is adopted by rich and altruistic Sandy and Kirsten Cohen. Ryan and his surrogate brother Seth, a socially awkward but quick-witted adolescent, grapple with life as outsiders in the affluent Newport Beach. Ryan and Seth spend a lot of time figuring out their feelings for Marissa Cooper, Summer Roberts, Seth's childhood crush, and Taylor Townsend, the fast-talking loner. The Cohen family's idealistic values clash with the shallow, materialistic, and closed-minded town in which they live. The show is a blend of melodrama and humor with postmodern undertones.
