The Love Boat

The Love Boat, based on a cruise ship, aired on ABC from September 24, 1977, until May 24, 1986. Gavin MacLeod was the show's captain. It remained on ABC's Saturday night program until 1984, when Fantasy Island ceased. The original 1976 TV movie was based on the nonfiction book The Love Boats by a real-life cruise director. Two TV movies followed before the series began. Aaron Spelling produced the series from the 1960s to the 1980s for ABC. In 1997, "Hidden Treasure," "Picture from the Past," and "Ace's Salary" were No. 82 on TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time. Love Boat ran for 10 seasons, including specials.
