Gene Roddenberry debuted as a television producer with the creation of the American television series The Lieutenant. The troops of the United States Marine Corps in peacetime are the center of the drama "The Lieutenant," which is set in Camp Pendleton, the base of operations for the Marine Corps on the West Coast. Second Lieutenant William Tiberius Rice is a rifle platoon leader at Camp Pendleton as well as one of the training instructors there. He is the protagonist of this story. The Lieutenant is a drama that runs for one hour and focuses on the lives of both enlisted Marines and senior officers inside the Marine Corps. On August14,2012, the Warner Archive Collection distributed the series on DVD in the form of two half-season packages of the program.
