After being found guilty of murdering 14 female students at the Virginia college where he taught literature and being sentenced to death row, notorious serial killer Joe Carroll manages to evade execution. Because Ryan Hardy was the FBI agent who was ultimately responsible for Carroll's apprehension in 2003, the agency decides to call on his services as a consultant for this investigation. Ryan, in close collaboration with other members of an FBI team that includes FBI Specialist Debra Parker and FBI Agent Mike Weston, is helping to piece together the ever-expanding web of killings that has been created by the cunning Carroll.
