The Day Today

Armando Iannucci and Chris Morris devised and aired The Day Today in 1994, which is a surreal spoof of British current affairs television programs. It is an adaption of the BBC Radio 4 radio show On the Hour, which aired between 1991 and 1992. Morris, Iannucci, Steven Wells, Andrew Glover, Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, David Quantick, and the cast wrote On the Hour. Peter Baynham joined the writing staff of The Day Today, while Lee and Herring were replaced by Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews. On the Hour's principal cast members were kept for The Day Today. The Day Today is comprised of six thirty-minute episodes and a variety of shorter, five-minute promotional spots for the longer portions. The six episodes initially aired on BBC2 between January 19 and February 23, 1994. The Day Today has garnered numerous honors, with Morris receiving the British Comedy Award for Best Newcomer in 1994. Previously released on VHS, each of the six episodes is now available on BBC DVD.
