The unsung narrative of nothing less than the genesis of rock 'n' roll is told in the film Sun Records, which is set in Memphis during the turbulent early days of the civil rights movement. Young musicians such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis, guided by Sam Phillips, combined the sounds of hillbilly country and the R&B sound created in the 1950s by artists such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Fats Domino, and Ike Turner, and permanently altered the path that music would take in the future.
