Spooks: Code 9

Spy drama Spooks: Code 9 aired on BBC Three in 2008 as part of the BBC Three Spooks: Code 9 programming block. Following on from BBC Fiction's long-running spy drama Spooks, controller Jane Tranter commissioned the series to target a 16-24-year-old demographic by providing "a more maverick, younger perspective." The series depicts a squad of six young MI5 recruits who "follow a different rulebook." It was made by the independent production firm Kudos and filmed in and around Leeds and Bradford. On August 10, 2008, BBC Three aired the first two episodes of the series, which were then rebroadcast the following day. With Georgia Moffett claiming "it's little misleading in terms of the title Spooks," the decision to link the new production to the original Spooks was highly debated. and Chris Fry, the producer, says: "This is a whole new series. No characters or plotlines from the previous series are present, and the setting is entirely new." Many cast members were reportedly "contracted for another year" after the show's first season, according to executive producer Karen Wilson, who also laid out potential plot lines for a potential second season.
