Samurai 7 is a 2004 anime television series produced by Gonzo and based on the 1954 film Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa. The series was directed by Toshifumi Takizawa, and Kaoru Wada and Eitetsu Hayashi composed its music. Each of the 26 episodes cost around 32,500,000 to create. The series debuted in Japan on the anime satellite television network Animax as an exclusive CS-PPV broadcast, and was afterwards carried by the network on its other corresponding networks in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Latin America, and other territories. Funimation Entertainment has purchased the North American dubbing rights. It previously broadcast in America in April 2006 on the Independent Film Channel and in high definition on the Animania HD channel of Dish Networks. It has also been broadcast on specialty channel Razer in Canada and TVB Jade in Hong Kong. The series debuted on the Funimation Channel on September 6, 2010. It premiered on Adult Swim's relaunched Toonami block on August 19, 2012, and ran until February 10, 2013.
