Robot Wars was a British game show that was based on a competition with the same name that took place in the US. From 1998 to 2003, it was shown on BBC Two. The last two seasons were shown on Channel 5 in 2003 and 2004. More series were made for different parts of the global market. Two Robot Wars Extreme Warriors series with U.S. competitors were made for the TNN network, and two Dutch Robot Wars series were made for distribution in the Netherlands. In 2002, Robot Wars: Grand Champions on TNN brought the fourth season of the UK show Robot Wars to the US. Joanie Laurer was in charge of the show. In 2003, the roboteers got together and made The Fighting Robot Association. They continue to compete in competitions for new audiences with the help of the event organizers who work with them. Teams of both amateur and professional roboteers made their own robots to fight each other in friendly matches and tournaments. In addition to fighting each other, they had to stay away from the "House Robots," which could be heavier and had more weapons than the contestants. Robot Wars had a peak audience of 4 million people, and its merchandise did well in the market.
