Rescue Me is a romantic comedy television series that was first aired in the United Kingdom on BBC One in the year 2002. The series was produced by Tiger Aspect Productions. Sally Phillips plays the role of Katie Nash, a woman who is recovering from a divorce while at the same time writing relationship features for Eden, the women's magazine she works on. It was created by David Nicholls, who also did the majority of the writing for it, and David Nicholls was the principal writer. Filming for the series took place in November and December of 2001. It aired for a total of six episodes, during which time it garnered an average of 3.4 million viewers and a 15 percent audience share on Sunday nights. As a result of the low ratings, it was not recommissioned for a second season, which means that the cliffhanger will remain unresolved. Before Nicholls found out that Rescue Me had been canceled, he had already written four episodes for the second series that was never produced. As a direct consequence of this, he decided to step away from screenwriting in order to concentrate on writing his first novel, Starter for Ten. Oliver Darley has provided the series with its theme song, which is a cover version of the song "Rescue Me."
