Meet the Press

Meet the Press is a weekly American news/interview program that airs on NBC. Despite bearing little similarity to the original format of the program saw in its television debut on November6,1947, it is the longest-running television series in American broadcasting history. Meet the Press is the highest-rated Sunday morning talk show on American television. It has been moderated by 11 people, starting with Martha Rountree. David Gregory, who took over as host in December 2008, is the current host. On May 2, 2010, the show debuted a new set with video screens and a library-style set with bookshelves, as well as a different, modified intro music, with David Gregory previewing the guests using a large video screen and the Meet the Press theme music in a shorter "modernized [style]... the beginning repeated with drum beats." Meet the Press and other similar shows are known for interviewing national leaders on topics such as politics, economy, foreign policy, and other public concerns. The program's normal time slot on the NBC network has been between 9 and 10 a.m. local time in most markets during the past few years, though this may vary by market due to affiliate commitments to religious, E/I, or local news and public affairs programming. It also fluctuates for several weeks during the summer due to NBC Sports' morning coverage of the French Open tennis tournament or the Monaco Grand Prix. Previously, the program would air every Sunday at 12:00. The show also airs again on MSNBC on Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. ET and early Monday mornings at 4 a.m. ET, as well as an early Monday morning rerun as part of NBC's "All Night" roster. Dial Global syndicates the program to radio stations, and it airs as part of C-SPAN Radio's rebroadcast of Sunday morning conversation shows.
