Lost in Space

It was produced and directed by Irwin Allen, shot by 20th Century Fox Television, and aired on CBS as part of the Lost in Space franchise. Between September 15, 1965, and March 6, 1968, a total of 83 episodes were shown as part of the first three seasons of the show on ABC. However, the rest of the television seasons were shot in color. Based on the television series, Lost in Space: The Movie was produced in 1998. Jonathan Harris, who played Dr. Zachary Smith on the television series, was the star of several later storylines involving Dr. Smith's character. Smith, originally scripted as a nasty but incredibly talented saboteur, gradually becomes the show's humorous foil and the source of most of the show's episodic conflict and misfortunes, despite the show's best efforts. Neither Smith, nor the robot, were included in the pilot that was never broadcast. In the unaired pilot, they were thrown off track by a meteor storm. This happened because of Smith's sabotage and unintentional presence in the first aired episode. After a few seconds of hyper-drive, they were lost in space, light years away from Earth in the previously unaired episode since they were traveling so slowly.
