Jonas, formerly known as "J.O.N.A.S.," is a Disney Channel Original Series developed by Roger S. H. Schulman and Michael Curtis and starring the Jonas Brothers. The brothers portray the "Lucas Brothers," three members of the fictional band "JONAS" who want to live a normal life despite their fame. The pilot was shot in 2007, however the series was placed on hold due to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike. The production was originally scheduled to begin in January 2008, however the date was pushed back to September 2008. The series debuted on Disney Channel on May 2, 2009, and was made available on demand beginning on April 25, 2009. JONAS is the first Disney Channel Original Series (DCOS) since Phil of the Future that was not filmed with a live studio audience or laugh track. The sitcom was the first on the network to premiere on a Saturday night, as part of Disney's goal to open the night to original content and compete with Nickelodeon's historic domination of the evening. The television series takes place in New Jersey and is filmed at Hollywood Center Studios.
