It Takes a Thief

It Takes a Thief is an American action-adventure TV show that aired on ABC for two and a half seasons, from January 9, 1968, to March 24, 1970. In it, veteran movie actor Robert Wagner made his first appearance on TV as smart thief Alexander Mundy, who works for the U.S. government in exchange for his freedom from prison. Malachi Throne played Mundy's boss, Noah Bain, for most of the series. It was one of the last spy shows on TV in the 1960s, though Mission: Impossible went on for several more years. It Takes A Thief was inspired by the 1955 movie To Catch a Thief, which starred Cary Grant and was directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Both of their titles come from the English saying "It takes a thief to catch a thief."
