Fuyumi Ono's light novel series Ghost Hunt was originally titled Akury Series. It follows the Shibuya Psychic Research Center's adventures as they explore unusual phenomena across Japan with the help of a team of other spiritualists and cunning aides. The plot was left unfinished despite the fact that the last novel was published in 1994. Fuyumi Ono's assertion in an interview that she was resuming work on a "girls' horror narrative" has never been proven to be in connection to Ghost Hunt. In 1997, Akury Series turned the novels into a radio play. In the July 7, 1998 issue of Nakayoshi, a manga adaptation written and illustrated by Shiho Inada began serialization, and it is still ongoing. Kodansha gathered the separate chapters and published them in eleven tankbon volumes. It is licensed for English-language release in North America by Del Rey Manga and in the United Kingdom by Tanoshimi under the name Ghost Hunt. J.C.Staff created an anime adaptation of the manga, which debuted on TV Tokyo on October 3, 2006 and ran for twenty-five episodes until its end. Funimation Entertainment, which also used the name Ghost Hunt, has licensed the anime for English release on Region 1 DVD.
