Fullmetal Alchemist
Alchemy is the study of transforming one object into another. Edward and Alphonse Elric have this skill. Alchemy, on the other hand, is based on the principle of Equivalent Exchange, which states that in order to create anything new, a valuable resource must be depleted. Upon learning of their mother's death, Edward makes the unimaginable decision to use Human Alchemy to bring her back to life. He and Alphonse make their attempt, believing they have nothing to lose, but something goes horribly wrong. Alphonse loses his entire body and Edward loses his leg as a result. It takes Ed's arm and leg to save Al's soul by embedding it in a suit of armor.
