Gustave Reininger and Chuck Adamson created the 1986 NBC drama Crime Story. The executive producer was Michael Mann, who departed Miami Vice to supervise Crime Story and helm Manhunter. The show premiered with a two-hour movie that over 30 million people watched. The show followed Miami Vice on Friday nights and continued to draw record numbers. NBC relocated the show to Tuesdays at 10 pm opposite ABC's Moonlighting, harming its ratings. After two seasons, NBC canceled it. In the pre-Beatles 1960s, Lt. Mike Torello and mobster Ray Luca obsessed on destroying each other. Torello chased Luca as leader of an Organized Crime Strike Force after he started with street crime in Chicago, joined the Chicago Outfit, and was dispatched to Las Vegas to monitor casinos. Torello, Ted Kehoe, and Luca grew raised in Chicago's "The Patch," often nicknamed "Little Sicily" or "Little Italy" The show was praised and criticized for its serialized structure, which told an ongoing tale across an entire season.
