Charlemagne, le prince à cheval is a 1993 television miniseries about Charlemagne's life. It is divided into five chapters and spans the time between his father's death in AD 768 to Charlemagne's coronation as the first Holy Roman Emperor on Christmas Day, AD 800. However, there is a slight chronological anomaly: in an earlier episode, we see Widukind, the Saxon monarch, surrender and convert to Christianity, which did not occur until AD 803. This presentation was directed by Clive Donner and was based mostly on Einhard's contemporary history of Charlemagne, which he knew intimately.
