Captain Planet and the Planeteers is an American animated environmentalist TV show that was made by Ted Turner, Robert Larkin III, and Barbara Pyle. It was produced by Pyle, Nicholas Boxer, Andy Heyward, and Robby London, and it was developed by Pyle, Boxer, Heyward, London, Thom Beers, Bob Forward, Phil Harnage, and Cassandra Schafhausen. The show was made by Turner Program Services and DIC Entertainment, and it ran on TBS from September 15, 1990, to December 5, 1992. Hanna-Barbera and Turner Program Services made a follow-up show called "The New Adventures of Captain Planet." It ran from September 11, 1993, to May 11, 1996. Both shows are still airing today thanks to syndication. The show is a form of edutainment and promotes being kind to the environment. In February 2009, Mother Nature Network started showing Captain Planet and the Planeteers episodes and previously unaired footage on its website. With Pyle's help, the Planeteer Movement was started in September 2010 as a way for fans of the show to get together and continue to live by the show's ideas as real-life Planeteers.
