Candy Candy is a novel, manga, and anime series from Japan. Candice "Candy" White Ardlay, the protagonist, is a blonde girl with freckles, emerald-green eyes, and long, curly hair worn in pigtails with ribbons. In April 1975, Candy Candy first appeared in a novel by the renowned Japanese author Kyoko Mizuki. The Japanese magazine Nakayoshi became interested in Candy Candy after Mizuki joined up with manga artist Yumiko Igarashi. The manga was printed in the magazine for four years and received the inaugural Kodansha Manga Award for shjo in 1977. Toei Animation created an anime series based on the story. Several Candy Candy films have likewise never been released outside of Japan.
