Bread
Bread is a British sitcom written by Carla Lane and produced by the BBC. It aired from 1 May 1986 until 3 November 1991 on BBC1. The series followed the devoutly-Catholic Boswell family of Liverpool's Dingle, led by matriarch Nellie, as they struggled to survive in Thatcher's Britain. Elswick Street appears at the start of each broadcast. A Boswell family appeared in Lane's earlier series The Liver Birds, and Lane said they were possibly connected. Freddie, Nellie's irresponsible husband, abandoned her for 'Lilo Lill' Joey, Jack, Adrian, Aveline, and Billy stayed in the family home on Kelsall Street and contributed to the family fund through benefit fraud and the selling of stolen property.
