Amazon

Peter Benchley produced the syndication television show Amazon. It was created by the Canadian production companies Alliance Atlantis Communications and WIC Entertainment, as well as the German company Beta FilmGmbH. Between 1999 and 2000, the series' 22 episodes were broadcast in first-run syndication. The drama series followed the six survivors of a plane crash in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. The gang soon comes into contact with a Native American tribe, and relations are strained. The gang is taken in by a strange tribe descended from 16th century British colonists who became stranded in the Amazon. Relations with the Chosen are shaky at best. The majority of the gang escapes the Chosen only to stir up a hornet's nest with a tribe of cannibals commanded by a psychotic American woman bent on dominating all local tribes. The first season ended on a cliffhanger, and there was never a second season. The series was popular enough that it was released on DVD in 2011. Rob MacGregor wrote a novelization of the 2-hour pilot, and Harper issued a mass-market paperback on August 8, 2000. Amazonas - Gefangene des Dschungels was the title in German.
