In New London, Admiral Frank Beardsley is back to manage the Coast Guard Academy, his final stop before he is likely promoted to the position of head of the Coast Guard. He's a widower with eight children, and he runs a caring but tight ship, with charts and salutes in place. The youngsters are desperate for a permanent residence. One of Helen North's 10 children lives with her in loving chaos, with the odd group hug. A high school sweethearts reunion brings Helen and Frank back together, and they fall in love at first sight. On the spot, they get married. Trouble begins when two very different groups of children, the free spirits and the preppies, are forced to share a home together for the first time. Conflicting factions come to terms on ending the marriage by working together. -
