Why Do Fools Fall In Love

A group of three women (each accompanied by an attorney) show up in the office of Morris Levy, a New York entertainment manager, in the mid-80s. One is a singer from Los Angeles who used to be a member of the Platters; one is a petty criminal from Philadelphia; and one is a schoolteacher in a little Georgia town. Every single one of them claims to be the widow of the late doo-wop singer and songwriter Frankie Lyman, and they all seek years' worth of royalties due to his estate, money that Levy has never shared with them. The story of each character's existence with Lyman, a boyish, high-pitched, lively performer who died as a result of his addiction to heroin, is told through flashbacks during a subsequent civil lawsuit. Each of the three spouses gradually forms her own link with the other two wives.
