Marty (Alfred Molina) is a down-and-out jazz musician with vibrant desire for succeeding, but today he's living on the side and making small money by providing songs lessons to individuals that do not seem to desire them. His occasionally sweetheart, Sheila (Maggie O'Neill), is a barmaid at the Rose of Sharon, a neighborhood bar possessed by the hot-tempered Frank (Seymour Cassel). One day Sheila takes an old shaking chair out of the club's storage space and gives it to Marty; he after that uncovers that the chair is haunted by 2 ghosts, a middle-aged lady called Lilly (Marianne Faithfull) as well as a bright little woman called Ruthie (Rachel Bella). Ruthie seems to be from the millenium, however Lilly is contemporary. These easygoing spirits show up to Marty and also enliven his life with non-threatening pranks, but points turn severe when Marty uncovers Lilly was Frank's wife, who eliminated her in a fit of rage. With the help of the mortal, the ghosts intend revenge.
