Becky is the daughter of a hungry English artist and a French chorus girl, but she was orphaned when her parents died. Becky is beautiful, humorous, passionate, and calculating. She has this burning desire for a life that is more dazzling than the one that her birthright promises, and she is determined to win over English society by any means necessary. The simple ascent into the upper echelons of society is not, in and of itself, sufficient. Therefore, Becky finds a supporter in the influential Marquess of Steyne, whose caprices make it possible for Becky to realize her ambitions. But will the final price be too much for her to bear?
