An August day in 1933 in South Philly is a hot one for 12-year-old Gennaro and his widowed mother, who live with their elderly grandfather, who sits outside with his last quarter, which he has promised to Gennaro and which Gennaro would like to use to purchase a ticket for the fancy new movie theater that has just opened. While Gennaro may be ready to hand over the quarter, Grandpa has some unfinished business with a woman from his past and enlists the assistance of Gennaro as an ambassador to help him resolve it.
