To the Beat recounts the lives of twin sisters Mia and Mackie Castillo, who have been dancing since they were toddlers. That has been their one and only true interest since they were just three years old. They encourage and support one another throughout competitions and practices, despite the fact that they dance in distinct styles. Mia like tap dancing, and Mackie enjoys jazz. When their favorite pop star launches an online contest to find the most unique dance group for his next music video, the twins each form their own team to compete for the chance to dance in the video - enlisting the help of their friends and family to help them gain online votes - and win the opportunity to appear in the video. Meanwhile, their arch rival and neighbor, Avery, who happens to be the best dancer in the world (and who knows it), utilizes her charm and resources to gain an advantage over them in the contest.
