The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: The True Story

It was written by L Frank Baum in 1900. He was a businessman and journalist from Chicago. He also raised chickens and was an actor, a boutique owner, a movie director, and a lifelong fan of new and cutting-edge things. Many of the things that happened in the United States during his long life helped to inspire this great storyteller to come up with new ideas. His goal was to write the first real American fairytale, and the story still fascinates, inspires, and engages millions of people of all ages from all over the world. This documentary examines how The Wonderful Wizard of Oz came to symbolize the American Dream, using previously unseen footage from the Baum family archives, still photographs and clips from the early Oz films, as well as interviews with family members, literary experts, and American historians, to tell the story of one man's life in parallel with the development of modern America.
