When a young woman (Sandra Bullock) goes missing for no clear reason, her boyfriend Jeff (Kiefer Sutherland) searches for her for years. Even his new love, Nancy Travis, can't stop him from looking for her. While this is going on, the cold-blooded psychopath who kidnapped Jeff's girlfriend (Jeff Bridges) follows Jeff around, putting him through the exact same steps that led to the crime. Jeff has to put his own life in the hands of this sneaky stranger if he wants to find out what happened.
