In the early 1930s, a disillusioned World War I aviation ace ekes out a living as a barnstorming pilot/parachutist. A New Orleans newspaperman meets the pilot at a shabby carnival and gets fascinated with his fall from grace and his iconoclastic, independent lifestyle.
