The Son
Dima Ilukhin, the director's cousin and a Russian army soldier, was killed in action in Dagestan, Russia, in 2013. He was 21 years old at the time of the incident. As a result of this occurrence, Abaturov begins to question the military's role in society. It is a fascinating look at the lives of new soldiers in Siberia as he records them while they wave farewell to their families, learn how to fire a Kalashnikov, or perform first aid. Meanwhile, Dima and his former comrades must return to fight as their families struggle to come to terms with their loss.
