Mack Phillips falls into a profound depression after experiencing a tragedy in his family, which causes him to rethink the foundations of his most fundamental beliefs. When he was going through a difficult time with his faith, he got a strange letter that told him to go to an abandoned shack in the middle of the Oregon woods. In spite of his reservations, Mack decides to go to the shack, where he meets a mysterious group of strangers lead by a woman whose name is Papa. Mack comes to a new and profound understanding of the events that transpired in his life as a direct result of this encounter, which alters the course of his life irrevocably.
