Eccentric Frank Carlyle operated a horror shop in the little town of Steeple Falls, which takes great pleasure in its Halloween traditions and makes a good living from them. In order to settle the inheritance, Frank's widower grandson Richard reluctantly travels from Boston with his own children, intelligent Ian and bratty Claire, to the family home. Ian discovers that his great-mansion grandfather's is indeed haunted, and that it is not only haunted by the historic owner Zachariah Kull, who was burned at the stake as legend has it.
