Jim Morris' pitching career ended twelve years ago due to a shoulder injury. Jim's club makes him a deal: if they win the district title, he'll try out for a major-league franchise. The bet motivates the team, and they go from last to first, making it to state for the first time. Jim is nearly laughed off the try-out field until he goes to the mound and clocks consecutive 98 mph fastballs, good for a minor-league contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Jim has a long way to go before he can join The Show, but his big-league ambitions have been resurrected.
