Colonel Vincent Kane is a military psychiatrist in charge of a secluded army mental hospital. Capt. Billy Cutshaw, a troubled astronaut going through an existential crisis, is one of Kane's many eccentric patients. Despite Kane's own sanity, he manages to engage Cutshaw in a series of thoughtful conversations about science and faith that have a profound impact on both men's lives.
