Mr. Miyagi meets the widow of his commanding officer while attending a WWII remembrance ceremony for Japanese soldiers in the US Army. A young woman who lost both of her parents in an accident and is still dealing with her grief is introduced to him as Julie, a solitary, angst-ridden youngster. Mr. Miyagi chooses to teach her karate in order to help her deal with her problems and get her life back on track.
