The More You Ignore Me

Warm and funny, The More You Ignore Me centers on an eccentric family in 1980s rural England and is based on Jo Brand's lauded novel of the same name. Our main character, Gina, struggles with her mental health as she struggles with her dual role as a young mom and wife. When she becomes obsessed with the local weatherman, she is admitted to the adjacent psychiatric hospital. Since her mother is on a lot of psychedelics as she gets older, Alice has had trouble connecting emotionally to both of her parents, and her desperate attempt to mend those bonds brings the family to a tragic end that is both heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. The More You Ignore Me, set to the Smiths' songs, takes a sometimes stark, but also funny, look at life in this unique household, while also tackling mental health issues and their influence on the family.
