Staff Sergeant Will Montgomery (Ben Foster), who returned from Iraq, works for Army Casualty Notification. Captain Tony Stone (Woody Harrelson) and Montgomery work together to notify the families of troops who have died in action. The Sergeant is drawn to Olivia Pitterson (Samantha Morton), to whom he has just told that her husband has died.
