At the turn of the century, the cruel, well-heeled Hubbard dynasty lives in and poisons their section of the deep South. Regina Giddons, née Hubbard, is in control of her daughter. Mrs. Giddons is alienated from her husband, who is recovering from a terminal illness in Baltimore. But she needs him back and will use her daughter to aid in his return. Oscar and Ben, her two older brothers, are working on a shady business deal. Oscar is married to a flighty, unhappy woman and has a shady son. Will the girl be forced to marry her despised cousin? Is she going to be her mother or her aunt when she grows up? Is it possible for her to avoid both fates?
