Unusual criminals from all walks of life come together to rent a two-room apartment in an old house on a quiet street in central London from an ailing widow who has three pet parrots as a pet. Her captor, Professor Marcus, provides her with a cover narrative in which they claim to be members of an amateur string quintet who would like to use the facilities to improve their musical abilities. Instead, they are hatching a scheme to rob an armored bank van, and they intend to take advantage of Mrs. Wilberforce's naivete and Victorian sensibilities to their advantage.
